Northumberland Players Playwriting Competition

The winning playwrights will receive:
- $100.00 gift certificate
- Play reading or small stage production in the newly- renovated Firehall Theatre.

Entry Fee:
$20.00 - proceeds to Firehall Theatre Renovation Fund minus competition expenses

Duration:
45 minutes, maximum

Manuscript:
Copy of Script will not be returned


Rules:
- All submissions must be original, unpublished, and have not been
presented to a paying audience
- The Northumberland Players have First Rights of Production without royalties.
- Productions will be presented at the discretion of the Northumberland Players
- Scripts are judged on readability, produce ability, theme, comedic
content, characterization and dialogue.

Page Layout:
Traditional layout is required for manuscript;
Playwriting software is available at retail outlets -

. Use 81/2" x 11" paper (3-hole punch if possible)

. No paper clips; single-spaced

. Script must be securely bound

. Send one copy only; no originals

. No identifying information on pages other than Title Page

Title Page:
includes only - Title of your Play, Name, Address,
Telephone number, email address, number of pages in script.

Cast Page:
List of Characters with description of each

Subsequent Pages:
Number pages with Title of Play at top of each page

At Rise Description for each Scene (three scene maximum).
Set decoration, placement of characters, tone of the scene

Manuscript must convey conflict, comedic plot, comedic outcome

1st Annual One-Act (Comedy) Playwriting Competition

The Northumberland Players will be offering 3 workshops over the next 6 months, focusing on acting, directing and lighting/sound.

The first is a mask workshop held at the FireHall Theatre on Saturday April 12,  9:00am until 4:30 pm  Cost $35.00 per person...please bring bagged lunch  (coffee will be provided).

Confirmation is needed from those planning to attend. There is a maximum of 12 participants. Please call or email the FireHall if you would like to attend this class.

The workshop leader is Ms. Jenn Sellers, senior Drama teacher at St. Clement's independent school in Toronto.

Ms. Sellers has an honours bachelor's degree from the University of Toronto in English & Drama, and holds a Drama Specialist Certificate. She has worked in Community theatre for 25 years.
